So I’m sure many of you have seen the whipped coffee posts trending all over Facebook and Pinterest lately. It didn’t take very much to convince me that I needed to try it out, too, haha!

It’s super easy to make– simply whip equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water together until it gets fluffy. SO EASY!

And it’s YUMMY, too! When you mix it in with the milk, it creates a lovely, creamy coffee drink. Mmmm….

Most posts I’ve seen have it topping a glass of milk with ice in it. I’m sure that’s great, too, but I used coffee ice cubes in my milk to give it those nice layers.

And I feel like I just have to point out the serving sizes being shown in all those fancy pictures… they are HUGE-ANTIC (as my four year old would say)!

Most of them use 1-2 tablespoons of instant coffee per drink…. That’s the equivalent of 3-6 servings of regular coffee!! I’ve never tried to consume that much coffee in one go, but that just doesn’t seem healthy to me.

So my version (inspired by the one found here) is smaller, but you can certainly adjust your portions to whatever you like. The recipe I’m sharing here makes 2 “reasonable” servings, haha.

So let’s make some whipped coffee!

First, put 4 teaspoons of instant coffee (I used regular Nescafe), 4 teaspoons of sugar, and 4 teaspoons of hot water in a bowl.

Then use an electric mixer to whip it all together until it’s fluffy, about 2 minutes. You can whip it by hand, but it’ll take longer to fluff up.

Get out two glasses and pour 1 cup of milk into each cup. Add about 1/2 — 1 ice cubes (regular or frozen coffee ones), depending on how icy you like your drinks. If you want a sweeter drink, you can also add some coffee syrup to the milk (I’m currently loving the sugar-free hazelnut…mm mm!).

Spoon the whipped coffee on top of each drink evenly.

Take a moment to admire your lovely concoction, then swirl it together and take a sip of you delightfully creamy whipped coffee and milk!

I’m sure you could customize this in so many ways, too! Maybe add some cocoa powder or cinnamon to the whip? Try it with almond milk? Maybe some caramel syrup in it? Endless possibilities!

Can you make whipped coffee (dalgona) without sugar?

No, it’ll get frothy, but it won’t whip up. However, you really only need a tiny amount of sugar for it to whip properly! Instead of using a 1:1 ratio of coffee to sugar, you can use a 4:1 ratio and still get great results!

So for my recipe here, you would reduce the sugar to 1 teaspoon while keeping all of the other ingredient amounts the same.
